Product owns what gets built and why — the candidate experience, the recruiter console, and the judgement about which of the two a change should serve when it cannot serve both.
Own the recruiter-facing console: pipelines, interviews, offers and reporting. Your users do this job eight hours a day, and they will tell you exactly what is wrong with it.
This is a product whose users are at opposite ends of the same transaction, and most decisions help one at the other's expense. A feature that makes screening faster for a recruiter can make rejection more opaque for a candidate. Naming that trade-off rather than hiding it is most of the work.
Day to day this role works with Product Strategy, B2B SaaS and Analytics.
None of these are required. They are the things that would help, and a strong application is regularly missing all of them.
Specifications state the problem and the constraints and leave the solution open enough for design and engineering to improve on it. Discovery happens before the roadmap, not after it. Success is defined before work starts, and reported honestly when it does not move.
Associate to product manager to senior, with group product management for people who want to lead through others. The individual contributor path is real.
