Senior UX Researcher

About this role

Design owns what people move through under pressure: applying for work, sitting an interview, receiving or declining an offer.

Talk to candidates and recruiters, and turn what they say into decisions the team actually makes. You will own the research practice, not just individual studies.

The recruiter console is dense, configurable and used eight hours a day — designing it is a systems problem, not a screens problem. The candidate side is the opposite: someone anxious, on a phone, possibly at a moment that matters a great deal to them. Clarity beats novelty on both.

Primary responsibilities

• Run the research programme for the candidate and recruiter experiences — generative, evaluative and continuous
• Recruit participants who are actually representative, including candidates in small towns on poor connections, not just the people easiest to reach
• Run usability testing, diary studies and interviews, and analyse them rigorously enough that the findings hold
• Deliver findings people act on, which usually means being specific about what to change
• Build the research repository so a question asked next year does not repeat a study from this one
• Teach product managers and designers to run their own smaller studies well

Skills required

Day to day this role works with User Research, Interviewing and Synthesis.

• Five or more years of applied research in product teams
• Able to say what the evidence does not support, to people who wanted it to
• Five or more years in user research
• Both generative and evaluative methods, and the judgement about which a question needs
