Trade Finance & Insurance makes it possible for a seller to ship to a buyer they have never met — credit insurance, letters of credit, guarantees and the risk view behind them.

Run cargo claims from first notice to recovery: surveyors, carriers, insurers and the subrogation against whoever actually caused the damage.

Cross-border trade fails on trust and on documents, in that order. The instruments here are old and unforgiving: a discrepancy on a document set can hold payment for weeks, and a credit limit set carelessly becomes a loss six months later. Multiple jurisdictions, multiple regulators, and rules that reward people who have read the actual text.

Primary responsibilities

• Manage cargo claims end to end — notification, survey, quantification and recovery
• Appoint and instruct surveyors, and make sure the evidence is gathered before it disappears
• Preserve recovery rights against carriers, which means notifying within the time bars that apply under the Hague-Visby Rules and the equivalent conventions
• Negotiate settlement with underwriters and pursue recovery from the party actually at fault
• Analyse claims patterns and feed loss prevention back into how goods are packed and shipped

Skills required

Day to day this role works with Negotiation, Recovery, Claims Management and Surveys.

• Four or more years in cargo or marine claims
• Have pursued a recovery against a carrier and know the time bars
• Four or more years handling cargo claims
• Notification, survey, quantification and recovery
• Appointing and instructing surveyors so evidence is gathered before it disappears
