Senior Videographer / Director of Photography

Media & Creative Production makes everything the company puts out: films, photography, live streams, podcasts and the vertical video that carries most of it.

Set the visual language for everything we shoot and lead on the pieces that matter most. You will direct small crews, make the lighting and lens calls, and be the person who says when a shot is not good enough yet.

Shoots are rarely in comfortable places — campuses, offices, plants, and mine sites on a plateau where the cloud comes down and takes the light with it. Crew is small, so people run their own department on the day.

Primary responsibilities

• Own the look of a production — lensing, lighting and camera movement — and hold it across a shoot
• Plan the shoot from the script: shot list, lighting plan, kit list and what the day actually allows
• Lead the camera department and direct the gaffer and grip on set
• Make the call when the location, the light or the schedule changes and something has to give
• Work with the colourist so the material graded matches what was intended on the day
• Shoot in genuinely difficult conditions — a plateau where the cloud comes down and takes the light with it

Skills required

Day to day this role works with Cinematography, Lighting Design, Colour and Direction.

• Six or more years behind a camera, including narrative or documentary work
• A reel that shows range — a corporate film and something with actual feeling in it
• Comfortable directing people who are not performers and are nervous on camera
• Five or more years as a camera operator or DOP with a strong reel
