Instructional Designer

About this role

Learning & Development builds capability across a workforce that runs from engineers to site operators — management development, technical training, and the statutory safety training the sites require.

Design learning that changes what people do: onboarding paths, manager training and the product certification our customers take.

The audience is genuinely varied, and designing for it means designing for a phone on a poor connection in a second language as often as for a laptop. Statutory training completion at the sites is auditable, which makes tracking a compliance obligation rather than an administrative preference.

Primary responsibilities

• Design learning that works — objectives first, then the assessment, then the content
• Build e-learning, guides and blended programmes for a workforce that ranges from engineers to site operators
• Work with subject-matter experts to get the content right without letting it become a lecture
• Design for the constraints: a phone, a poor connection, and a language that may not be English
• Test the material with real learners and revise it

Skills required

Day to day this role works with Instructional Design, Curriculum, E-Learning and Assessment.

• Three or more years in instructional design, with courses people completed
• Three or more years in instructional design
• Designing from objectives and assessment rather than from content
• E-learning authoring and blended programme design
• Working with subject-matter experts without letting content become a lecture
• Designing for constrained access — a phone, a poor connection, a second language
