Mine Safety, Health & Environment holds the statutory safety and environmental posts and runs the systems behind them.
Own safety across the refinery and the conveyor corridor: permit to work, confined space and hot work control, incident investigation, and the authority to stop a job that you are expected to use.
The safety officer role carries the standing authority to stop work, and the function only works if that authority gets used on a production day. Environmental compliance covers consent conditions, monitoring and the reclamation commitments the clearance was granted on.
Day to day this role works with Risk Assessment, Training, Industrial Safety and Permit to Work.
The same for every role, at every level — a haul truck driver and a staff engineer get the same cover.

Damanjodi is the alumina refinery — the largest single site we operate. Process operations, the laboratory, mechanical and electrical maintenance, instrumentation, safety, environment and the site support functions are all based here, alongside the township.
A refinery township in the Koraput hills, with housing, a school and a health centre on site. Visakhapatnam is the nearest major city and it is a long drive. Shift buses run between the township, Semiliguda and the plant gates.
Work here is with caustic liquor at temperature and pressure. The protective equipment requirements and the permit system are absolute rather than advisory, and induction covers them before anybody enters the plant.
