Survey & Geology maps the deposit and measures the working — statutory survey, grade control, exploration and the sampling everything else is judged on.
Take face, pit and stockpile samples to the prescribed method, label and log them, and get them to the laboratory. Every grade decision downstream rests on whether this was done properly.
Mine survey is a statutory function: the plans are legally required, and confirming the working stays inside the lease boundary is an obligation rather than a courtesy. Grade control decides what the operation is actually worth, because the marks a geologist puts on a face are what the operators dig to.
Day to day this role works with Record Keeping and Sampling.
