Senior Payments Engineer — Cross-Border

Primary responsibilities

• Build the cross-border payment rails — correspondent banking, local rails and the settlement between them
• Handle multi-currency properly: FX at the point of quote, rate expiry, and who bears the movement between quote and settlement
• Work with cut-off times and value dates, which decide whether a payment lands today or in three days
• Build the sanctions and AML screening into every leg, with the false-positive handling that stops it blocking the business
• Own the reconciliation across corridors where the money moves through several parties
• Design the compliance reporting each regulator in each corridor requires

Skills required

Day to day this role works with API Design, FX, SWIFT and Cross-Border Payments.

• Six or more years in payments, including cross-border
• Know what an MT103 contains and why a payment gets returned
• Realistic about cut-offs, value dates and the days money simply does not move
• Five or more years in payments engineering with cross-border experience
• Correspondent banking and local payment rails
• Multi-currency handling: FX at the point of quote, rate expiry, and who bears the movement
• Cut-off times and value dates and what they mean for settlement
• Sanctions and AML screening on every leg, with false-positive handling that does not block the business
• Reconciliation across corridors where money moves through several parties
• Regulatory reporting per corridor

None of these are required. They are the things that would help, and a strong application is regularly missing all of them.

Working in Payments & Gateway Engineering

Double-entry thinking, strong reconciliation, and integrations with more than one provider because they all behave differently. PCI DSS scope is a real constraint on architecture, not a checkbox.

Payments engineering is a specialism that transfers anywhere, and the surface here spans gateway, settlement and cross-border.

About Bengaluru

Bengaluru is our largest site and where most of engineering, product, design, data and AI sit. The office is in the eastern corridor, and the majority of these roles are remote-friendly with the team meeting in person a few days a week.

The city has the deepest technology labour market in India, which cuts both ways: the work is here, and so is everyone else commuting to it. Teams are deliberate about core hours because a cross-city commute in the evening peak can take longer than the meeting it was for.
