Product Manager, Candidate Experience

Primary responsibilities

• Own the experience of applying for a job — search, the application itself, and everything a candidate sees after they submit
• Cut the drop-off in the application funnel, and know which step is losing people and why rather than guessing
• Talk to candidates directly, including the ones who were rejected, because that is where the honest feedback is
• Write specifications that state the problem and the constraints, and leave the solution open enough for design and engineering to improve it
• Prioritise against a roadmap where the loudest request is usually not the most valuable one
• Define what success looks like before the work starts, and report the result honestly when it does not move

Skills required

Day to day this role works with Product Strategy, User Research, SQL and Roadmapping.

• Three or more years in product, on something people used daily
• You can write a spec an engineer does not have to interpret
• Comfortable pulling your own numbers
• Three or more years in product management on a consumer or user-facing product
• Funnel analysis you have done yourself, not commissioned
• A record of talking to users directly and changing your mind because of it
• Ability to write a specification that states the problem and leaves room for a better solution
• Comfort prioritising against a roadmap where the loudest request is not the most valuable
• Defining success before the work starts and reporting honestly when it does not move

Preferred

None of these are required. They are the things that would help, and a strong application is regularly missing all of them.

• Mobile-first product experience
• Marketplace or two-sided product background
• Experience in hiring, education or another high-stakes consumer journey

Working in Product Management

Specifications state the problem and the constraints and leave the solution open enough for design and engineering to improve on it. Discovery happens before the roadmap, not after it. Success is defined before work starts, and reported honestly when it does not move.

About Bengaluru

Bengaluru is our largest site and where most of engineering, product, design, data and AI sit. The office is in the eastern corridor, and the majority of these roles are remote-friendly with the team meeting in person a few days a week.

The city has the deepest technology labour market in India, which cuts both ways: the work is here, and so is everyone else commuting to it. Teams are deliberate about core hours because a cross-city commute in the evening peak can take longer than the meeting it was for.
